Festivals, Concerts and Wakestock – OH MY!

Toronto International Film Festival is just around the corner, and every Torontonian knows that TIFF is the ultimate sign that the summer season has come to a close. However, we still have 4 weekends left in what’s been a beautiful summer, and the city has much to offer in the excitement department. It all starts tomorrow night with Taste of the Danforth. Now in its 18th year of operation, Taste of the Danforth offers fun for the whole family. Canada’s largest street festival welcomes over 1.3 million visitors each year and is supported by Ontario Tourism.  This year you can expect a number of exhibitors to be offering contests, prizes and free samples, not too mention dozens of scrumptious food stations from Danforth’s amazing selection of multi-ethnic restaurants.

After dining on Danforth, you’ll no doubt want to burn off the excess calories left by tzaziki and gyros with some dancing. Not to worry, because Maison Mercer has you covered with DJ Max Vangeli joining  Joachim Garraud for the Invasion 2011 DJ Set.

Normally an audio video concert, this leg of the French DJ’s tour will forego the video installments and be a duo DJ set, but fans can still expect to be witness to Garraud’s signature showman style. The mask adorned DJ is known for his high energy sets and instrumental acts. Today, he is supported by a large electronic music community, with fans often sporting his signature Space Invader mascot mask.

Vangeli is no stranger to the Toronto nightlife scene either. Named one of the top 5 DJ’s to watch this year, and one of the most promising artists for 2011 by MTV,  the young DJ is about to take the electronic music scene by storm, as house music lovers worldwide have taken notice and hold their breath for his debut album featuring collaborations with heavyweights Steve Angello and the UK’s Example amongst others. This is one club concert you don’t want to miss.

If fleeing the city is what you had your heart set on, then head up to Collingwood for the weekend. Home to Wakestock 2011, the three day beach bash at Millennium Park features pro wakeboarding challenges, the WWA World Series of Wakeboarding, Miss Wakestock bikini contest, and tons of live music acts.
